Close to Famous

If you like baking, this is definatly the book for you! I know I do and it was probably one of the things that made it one of my favorites. This story is called "Close to Famous" and its by Joan Bauer who I deeply admire. The whole plot is based on a girl who is challenged by reading. Now, when I read a book summery and hear that its about challenged people, I usually put it back down. I feel so horrible that I'm being steriotipicle but, when i read, well, thats just not want I want to read about. So if your thinking that right now, stop. The main character, Foster Mcfee, has trouble reading and a large portion of the book is about her overcoming that, but its not like shes EXTREMELY challenged. She can talk, walk, and do anything else other normal people can and alot of others have the same problem to. So, back to the topic.

Foster lives with her widowed mother (her father died) and life hasn't been an easy ride. She can't read, she has no friends to talk to, and worst of all her mothers boyfriend, Huck, is abusive. And that how they ended up half way across the country from him in a small town called Cullpepper. Here, life begins to get a little better for them. Foster who LOVES to bake, gets a new job making cupcakes for a small diner in town, she has a new friend Macon, Miss. Charleena, a use-to-be actress, is helping her learn to read, and most of all they're away from Huck. That is until he returns for revenge on the people who left him.

As usual, I'm not going to tell you about everything so you actually have something to read and figureout once you buy the book. Trust me on this, you WON'T be disappointed. (By the way, if you read this book and love it like I did, Joan Bauer has a new book coming out in September that I'm definatly going to get and you should to!)

A Mango Shaped Space

So, here is the second book that I read on vacation. It's called "A Mango Shaped Space" and its by one of my favorite authors, Wendy Mass. Lets just say before I even continue, I'm going to give a standing ovation to her! The story is based on a girl, Mia Winchell, having a deisese called Synesthesia. As I was reading this I was amazed at how hard it must have been to write a story about something that you can't really relate to. How much research that had to be done to get a goood grip on the condition must have taken forever and even then its difficult to put yourself in someone like Mia's position. Anyways, back to the story. So, Mia is a middle schooler who for all her life had to go through this alone without anyone knowing. But finally one day, she just can't take it anymore and tells her parents everything. They bring her to get help and things start to get a little better. Until Mngo, her beloved cat who gives her the gift of feeling as thought her dead grandfather is still with her, dies. All of a sudden things go the oposite direction that they should. Adam, a boy who also has Synesthesia, kisses her but its not how anyone would expect, frienships start to change for the worst, and most of all, her colors are gone.

I'm going to stop there because I don't want to give away all the good parts. You'll just have to go take a trip to the book store to find out..

Heys guys, so I was thinking. And well, I figured I would show you this great book accesssorie! It's from the much loved Vera Bradley company and its called the "Good Book Cover". I found it one day when I was searching the site trying to find some things that could be used for different porposes. And did I find it! Well as you can see in the picture I have in in Rythm and Blues, one of my favorite patterns. I recently used it when I went on April Vacation and it was SO helpful! If you read my previos post, it said that I read "Water Balloon" on vacation to, and well this is the book, along with "A Mango Shaped Space" by Wendy Mass, that I carried around in it. Actually, its a pretty large book carrying case. I had a hardcover that was a little over 300 pages and a paperback that was almost 300 so I thought that was pretty good considering I was only expecting to fit one book inside. (I bet if you really wanted you could fit more though.) So, if your looking for a book bag that also looks styleish and expensive, this is the one for you! (It cost 32$.)

Hi everyone! This is my first post so I hope you all aprove! So, this book is one that I read while on vacation this past April Vacation. It's called "Water Balloon" and its by Audry Vernick. The whole story is based on the hardships of being a young women and the author definatly pulls it off with her teenage dialect and attitude. The main character, is Marley Baird, a 12 year old girl who has been going throught the hardships of having divorced parents. The story starts off when she is being sent to her fathers new house for the summer, and gravely disagrees with her parents decision. If only she knew about the boy next door, Jack, who Vernick repeatedly writes as "the guy with light blue eyes." But once he and Marley meet, it is not love at first sight. It takes just a little bit until she is pulled into his warmth and kindness and well, totally falls head over heels for him! But during all this, there are a few other things she must figure out, like the baby sitting job of five year old twins Faith and Grace which is most certainly DIDN'T want, the gradualness of her and her friends, Leah and Jane, moving away from each other (not litterally), the disaterous Water Balloon Blitz.
